We are seeking participants like you for a focus-group study which will help us to create supportive programs CUNY-wide for PIs developing Broader Impacts (BI) statements in their proposals, and for the many staff that assist them in this process. If you are able to attend a 30-45 minute focus group over zoom, please register here. Please also share with other relevant staff or faculty administrators on your campus. If you register, we will be in touch with further details. We appreciate your time and input.
The Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (NSF grant #2140950) is working with the Science Education Resource Center (SERC) at Carleton College to evaluate researchers’ experience creating Broader Impacts (BI) plans. Specifically, CUNY CREST has received a subaward to assess BI expertise and needs across the university and possible uses of the ARIS Broader Impacts Toolkit, developed in partnership with Rutgers University. We appreciate the time you are taking to join us for a 45 minute focus group. Your input is valuable to project leaders as they continue to support the needs of both institutions and the research impacts community.
The purpose of these focus groups is to understand how researchers and administrators view how Broader Impacts is situated within their professional work (institution/context), reported use/usefulness of the ARIS Broader Impacts (BI) Toolkit website (if any), and perceptions of strengths and challenges of utilizing the Toolkit. This information will be used to complement feedback from other cohort members, administrators, and researchers.
There are no known risks associated with participation in this survey. Participation is voluntary. You may discontinue your participation at any time. If you have any questions about this research project, please contact Dr. Ellen Iverson, Director of Evaluation for the Science Education Resource Center (SERC), at eiverson@carleton.edu. The chair of the Institutional Review Board at Carleton College, Dr. Pamela Feldman-Savelsberg, IRB Chair and Broom Professor of Social Demography and Anthropology, can be reached at 507-222-4113 or 1 N. College Street (1-SOAN), Northfield, MN 55057.
